History |
The company was formed by seasoned industry experts in 2001 as a dedicated metro fibre infrastructure developer and supplier of last mile Dark Fibre for businesses. Digital River Networks focuses on last mile fibre optic infrastructure for data centres and buildings. |
In 2004, the Australian Government awarded Digital River Networks funding grants to establish Broadband last mile wireless networks for rural Australia, under the HIBIS, and later the Broadband Connect programme. Digital River Networks’ is extending its broadband last mile philosophy to super high speed wireless technologies such as WiMAX. |
By 2004, Digital River Networks had rolled out significant last mile fibre networks in Sydney and Melbourne serving the growing Dark Fibre marketplace. |
By 2007, Digital River Networks has expanded its network reach to most mainland capital cities, and is now a specialist high speed broadband network developer and supplier of wholesale and retail last mile connectivity. As a licensed telecommunications carrier, we own and operate a large and advanced technology based metropolitan optical broadband network in Australia. |

Management Team |
Managing Director: Brian Evans |
Brian’s has 12 years experience in the IT and telecommunications sectors covering analysis, design, outsourcing, management and delivery of telecommunications services with many of these roles in a business start-up capacity. Brian has considerable experience in the domestic and international telecommunications industry, including detailed work in Internet service deployment, e-commerce, IP mediation, billing solutions, systems integration and the Internet. |
Prior to joining Digital River Networks, Brian led Uecomm’s national fibre optic broadband product development and deployment projects. Prior to joining Uecomm, Brian held various middle and senior management roles in Telstra, British Telecom - Asia Pacific and British Telecom’s Business Solutions Division (Global Outsourcing). Whilst at British Telecom Brian was responsible for the deployment of many high profile corporate networks. Brian has worked on many global projects in countries including India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, UK and in Europe. Brian has also worked as a Senior Business Consultant with Dimension Data one of the worlds leading systems integrators. Brian was heavily involved in the corporate deployment of IP Telephony and has worked extensively with managing change within an organisation at senior levels. |
Brian has a Bachelor of Business, has been trained in many aspects of service delivery, has worked extensively in risk management and is a qualified Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. |
Director, Finance: Blake Roet |
Blake is responsible for the financial management of the company and is the Company Secretary. |
Blake joined Digital River Networks as an Executive Director in June 2005. He was previously a founding shareholder and Chairman of Willow Fashion Group Pty Ltd, a founding shareholder and Company Secretary of US incorporated IT security company 90 East, Inc, which was acquired in early 2004 by US company Cybertrust, a shareholder and Finance Director of Australia Asia Investment Management, which listed on the ASX and managed the very successful Flinders Industrial Property Trust, and an Investment Banker employed by JP Morgan & Co. in Australia and the United Kingdom. |
Blake has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University and a Diploma of Applied Finance & Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. Blake is a Fellow of the Institute of Securities Finance & Banking and an Associate member of CPA Australia. |
General Manager, Service: John Brett |
John has 36 years experience in the information technology and telecommunication industry. John’s career has encompassed a broad knowledge of many business operations and their associated management systems. His capabilities and experiences include strategic planning, project consulting, joint venture management in Asia, operational and sales management in Australia, change and project management, process re-engineering and information systems and technology management. John has been a senior employee of OTC, Telstra and a senior consultant to British Telecom, Telstra, and Telecom Malaysia. |
John’s qualifications include an Associate of Applied Science Degree, Certified ISO Quality Auditor and Certified Workplace Training and Assessment Educator. |
General Manager, Commercial & Legal: Prakash Patel |
Prakash has several years experience in commercial and legal roles within the telecommunications and technology industries. He was the General Counsel at Uecomm (now owned by SingTel Optus) as well as the Commercial and Legal Manager at the Australian Stem Cell Centre prior to joining Digital River Networks. He has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and privatisations gained during his time in the Major Projects department of Freehills solicitors. |
Prakash has a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Law from Monash University and has recently completed his MBA from Melbourne Business School. He is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association. |
General Manager, Consumer: Sean Cooray |
Sean joined Digital River Networks in July 2007 as the General Manager - Consumer. Sean has previously held roles such as Sales and Operations Manager for Dodo Australia, Sales and Operations Manager for Static Communications and Channel Manager for Pacific Wireless. |
Combining more than 7 years Telecommunications experience with his 7 plus years on technical support and administration roles for companies such as IBM Global Services, Victoria University, Keg Restaurants, Sean is a proven performer whose track record for delivery will see Digital River Networks consumer division flourish. |
Sean’s primary focus is to deliver the deployment of Digital River Networks' regional wireless network and subsequent residential customer acquisition. Also to develop and deliver the systems and processes for an automated environment that will see the customer experience enhanced. This automation will extend to Digital Rivers’ resellers and wholesale customers. |
